Outdoors
Bear Mountain State Park – Located next to the west bank of the Hudson River, the park has a lot to offer. You can take a hike up in the rugged mountains, or enjoy a picnic in a sprawling shady abyss. The Perkins Memorial Tower situated on top of Bear Mountain provides spectacular views of the entire landscape for viewers from April to November. There is also a Merry-Go-Round that features hand carved and painted native animals.
Bear Mountain Pool – Looking for a way to cool down this summer? This peaceful and spacious pool is open from 10:00 am – 5:30 pm starting in June. There are also playgrounds and basketball courts located here.
Hessian Lake – A beautiful spot to visit during the summer months. Although swimming isn’t allowed in this peculiar lake, there are still many reasons to check it out. You can take a walk around the grounds, or perhaps take in a bit of the interesting history surrounding the now serene location.
Boat Rentals – Aside from swimming in, or looking at lakes, there are many local spots around the Bear Mountain Bridge where you can take out a boat. The Bear Mountain Inn offers paddle and rowboat rentals from 11 am – 5 pm during weekdays, and from 11 am – 6 pm during the weekends.

George Washington Headquarters – George Washington’s headquarters is a popular spot. This is the nation’s first publicly owned historic site. You can actually see where history was made! During his time in Newburgh, NY George Washington made many contributions toward shaping the American republic. From rejecting the idea of a monarchy in America to circulating important information to State governors, there are many things Washington did during his time here.

Bear Mountain Car Cruise – A fun event for everyone. Check out an array of interesting cars, both imported and domestic. Every Wednesday evening, enthusiasts meet up for a great show. Bring your own car for the show, or simply spectate. There is food, drinks, and good times to be had all around.
